How VR Is Changing the Game for Product Designers
Great article. I'm a student who's interested in a VR workflow. Can you share which software package(s) you use to view/interact with your CAD in VR?
I've done some VR work at school, I use Unreal Engine 4 to do all of my VR stuff. You're able to import Solidworks models right into it now.
Autodesk Inventor > 3DS Max > 3DS Max Interactive
Right now I'm primarily working with draftsight for 2D and then sketchup+enscape and for very specific stuff (like furniture design) I work with solidworks+keyshot
If you are a student try out VRED Professional, its what we currently use in the studio (Automotive)
Those interested in this topic may also like the story I wrote in the January 2018 Plastics Engineering magazine (see http://bit.ly/Kinetic_story ), quoting Jim Topich and Tony Guard from Kinetic Vision in Cincinnati on how VR and AR are speeding product development. That article is based on the presentation they jointly gave at the SPE Design in Plastics 2017 conference I organized at CCS in Detroit.
I'm working on archviz and contracto management right now and things like enscape can actually cut the time from idea to production at least by half.
