Here's another future prediction we're guessing no one could have made fifty years ago: Fifty years in the future, people will carry around wireless, personal telephones that each contain more computing power than today's largest mainframes... Also, one out of five people will return them to the store because they just don't like them.
Yep, a recent study by the Opinion Research Corporation shows that smartphones were the most-returned gift this past holiday season, with 21% of them going back to the store. More proof that the future's always more boring than we think it'll be.

Interesting numbers; however, I find the end data to be off slightly. For example, it shows that 21% of people returned a Smart Phone, but doesn't follow up with the data (% of people buying a different model or make from the monies returned to them). Furthermore, the numbers are derived from a season based with gifts, and not general personal purchases. How many times do you get a certain item (gift), and even though it is nice, return it to buy what you had wanted in the first place? Or, another way...You get a Sony amplifier for X-Mas, and you end up returning it to get the Denon you had your eyes and heart on before. This data doesn't mean that technology isn't sexy or boring, it simply means there is something more important that the refunded money can buy the person. Just my opinion of course!
