Post-Apple, Here's Five Things I'd Like to See Jonathan Ive Design
hmmm... I don't see him doing anything anywhere near like this kind of work. I could be wrong, but I think he was less the UX systems guy and more the, let's machine this out of a solid billet and make all the batteries custom, guy. Les the let's make a connected ecosystem, and more the lets make the part line invisible.... That is just my impression from the outside. I could be way off base.
Yeah as great as AAPL has become as setting a high benchmark for design, which the ROW can understand, he's still just one guy, who made out great working with one company for many years. Unquestionable impeccable taste and creative direction, but most likely not the answer to the sticky systems problems above. More likely we will see a $10,000 Juicero or a $5000 water bottle. Maybe some $200 t-shirts.
I agree. And in a world that everyone want to jump to a UX/Digital solve for everything, I would love to see a product/form design hero emerge again. It would be awesome for people to fall back in love with form.
I love the idea that a new hero must emerge... but maybe that person should be born in the 70's instead of the 60's ;-) This feels like a Mr Glass level of endeavor!
I think it is going to be a lot of this... and I don't blame him.
Rain! I just read your article today (thought it was great) - and then came across this airport / security checkin concept that tied right in with your thoughts : https://www.yankodesign.com/2019/07/09/this-futuristic-airport-escalator-can-perform-your-security-check-as-you-stand-on-it/
Rain, I actually designed something similar to your situational awareness idea for my senior thesis.
I want your situational awareness system on my property, and I only have 8,500 sqft.
