The American Prison Uniform: A Snapshot
Great article, this is an area of design never mentioned. In my line of work I have designed food packging for prisons, one of the design criteria is that none of the packaging can be used as a weapon.
Hey Chris, thanks for your comment. That's so curious to me - what brand were you designing packaging for then? Or was it a generic detention supplier? Would love to hear how you ended up there, and what the feedback loop was like on your work, e.g. because of its very unique considerations.
Emily, Generic meal serving containers for pre prepped meals for a supplier, most of the packaging goes to low risk facilities. The point was not to design for them, but make all the containers sold by the company meet the criteria to eliminate SKU's
Right - elimination of SKUs.. I did some research on Bob Barker, Inc. Worth googling if you're not familiar with them. Massive market share on these design products. Thanks again for your feedback. (PS - may have accidentally "disliked" your comment, though mean to "like" it!)
I'm used to dislikes, I'm an industrial designer. :) The most interesting bit about the project was learning all the different ways single serve food packaging WAS used to harm someone.
