A Watch Frozen in Time: Why CW&T is Removing Features from a Classic Digital Timepiece
Might as well make the time count down and call it art. With all the current focus on sustainability and elimination of single use disposable items from our lifestyles this is a tone deaf statement piece. A gimmick. After the first year will it really be charming that it doesn't keep accurate time and there is nothing you can do about it? A watch that does not, in fact cannot keep accurate time is a waste of resources and no art crit psycho babble fixes that.
Substitute cynicism for curiosity, Dan
My criticism of this poor design does not mean that I lack any curiosity. I’m just calling a spade a spade in this instance. This timepiece belongs in the design roast if anywhere on this site.
Other than aesthetics this design does little to improve the functionality of the timepiece and actually actively hinders it. I don't think we should celebrate planned obsolescence as an innovative design feature.
Honestly this entire design and sales pitch reminds me of the fluffy BS that would be used in critiques in my art classes to explain away poor craft as an "artistic decision."
