Avery Saylor

Hi, I'm Avery! I am a hard worker who is organized and detail oriented. I believe that design is personal, and if you can make a connection with a project, the results will be even better because you are going to push to find the optimal solution. One of my favorite aspects of Industrial Design which helps me to make this connection is user research. I love to talk with my users to truly understand their needs and wants for a product. I pride myself on my designs being well thought out, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing because of this deeper understanding that I am able to gain though observing, asking questions, and empathizing. I became interested in Industrial Design when I found that it was a career which combined my creative interest with my love of problem solving, organization, and structure. During my time at Purdue I was able to gain a lot of skills and knowledge which have deepened my drive and interest in this area. By the end of my senior year I have been able toreceive three patents on my designs as well as the honor of being selected as The Purdue Merit Award Winner,The Representative of Art and Design for The Sudler Prize, and the First Place Winner for the undergraduate show for my thesis design. I also was able to end the year with a 3.87 GPA. I am looking forward to the next step in my career and seeing where the field of Industrial Design takes me in the future.

Sydney Smith

My name is Sydney Smith and I am a senior in Industrial Design at Purdue University. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago called Oak Park, IL. Growing up I always loved art and math. Upon having to decide what I wanted to study in college I came across Industrial Design. I loved the way I could use my creative and problem-solving skills. Upon studying at Purdue and learning new design skills I fell in love with the design process. I really love the research steps in the process and focusing on the users' experience and pain points to design a useful product.
