The Association of Women Industrial Designers is a professional organization devoted to the concerns of women in the field of industrial design. Rebecca Welz, a professor in the graduate industrial design program at Pratt Institute, and several graduate thesis students founded the group in 1991. Although presenting the exhibition Goddess in the Details constitutes AWID's largest project so far, that has not been its sole focus. The organization also serves as a forum for speakers and informal discussion and as a network for developing our collaborative resources and exchanging information about various opportunities. Our membership currently consists of design professionals as well as individuals associated with Pratt's Industrial Design Department.
