Oyler Wu Collaborative outdoor pavilion in Taipei

Each year the Architecture League honors a group of up-and-coming North American architecture firms as Emerging Voices, an award that recognizes "a distinct design voice" and "the potential to influence the disciplines of architecture, landscape design and urbanism." This year the panel selected eight firms: INABA, 5468796 architecture, SCAPE Landscape Architecture, Studio NMinusOne, Oyler Wu Collaborative, SsD, Arquitectura 911sc, and Atelier TAG.

Each firm will present their work as part of a lecture series hosted by the Architecture League beginning on March 2nd at Cooper Union. Tickets go on sale this week, but if you'd like to know a little bit more about each firm before attending, here's a rundown of the second half of the bunch. Oyler Wu Collaborative
Location: Los Angeles
Mission Statement: Oyler Wu's website is light on text and heavy on images and video, which makes sense for architects who seem to be less interested in the conceptual side and more focused on materials and building processes. In this video you can watch a hand-made woven net transform into a large, steel-frame pavilion.
Major Projects: Installations for Sci-Arc, various outdoor pavilions and a jutting, steel housing complex in Taipei.

SsD's White Block Gallery

SsD
Location: New York, Boston and Seoul
Mission Statement: "Minimum form takes maximum effect" with sustainability as a conscientiously integrated component "rather than an additive result" and an emphasis on extensive research before production.
Major Projects: Gorgeous, boxy and minimal residences, Clover restaurant in Massachusetts and the White Block Gallery in Korea (AIANE Design Award).

Arquitectura 911sc's Churubusco Film Labs and Producers Building for Mexico's Ministry of Culture

Arquitectura 911sc
Location: Mexico City
Mission Statement: Their urban planning, social housing projects and arts and community structures are "physical solutions that respond to the social, environmental and economic complexities of cities."
Major Projects: The Performing Arts Center in Guadalajara, Spanish Cultural Center expansion and low-income housing development in Iztacalco.

Atelier TAG' Theatre du Vieux-Terrebonn

Atelier TAG
Location: Montreal
Mission Statement: Atelier TAG has the starkest website ever. They're so new to the scene they have no information and no images available. I was able to scrounge up only one.
Major Projects: I guess you'll have to go to their lecture to find out.
