By British estimates, China's design industry will potentially be worth 3 million pounds. A company called UK Trade & Investment has therefore set up a "trade mission" to China, whereby 12 UK companies, a sort of "design task force," will participate in seminars and conferences in major Chinese cities.
One of the firms selected is product design consultancy Creactive Design.
"With more than three million engineers due to graduate from Chinese universities between 2005 and 2010 and the potential for new product development that this is bound to generate, we need to be much more proactive about promoting our creative strengths," said [Creactive partner Neil Bates].UKTI chief executive Andrew Cahn said the potential market for UK design would develop rapidly as China's economy moved towards selling more sophisticated products and services into a competitive marketplace.
