We were thrilled to unpack the finished Longboards this week, delivered from Ponoko and Bustin Boards, our two completely awesome sponsors of last month's 1 Hour Design Challenge: Laser-cut Grip Tape Inlay for a Longboard. The challenge was to create graphic explorations for the "top" of the board (graphics are typically screen printed on the bottom), utilizing the laser-cutting precision of Ponoko, and applied to the beautiful boards of Bustin. As you'll recall, the winners of 1 Hour Design Competition were "Freedom" designed by leebaz "Muse 2" designed by b_fuzz, and "Day of the Dead" designed by delaojoser, and the prize was to receive their design...laser cut and applied to a complimentary board! But not before we got 'em and photographed 'em for your viewing pleasure.
Congratulations to the winners (and to special mention jerry), and now we'll wrap these babies back up and send them on to the lucky three!

Not a fan of these choices they picked. I saw all 50-some pages of entries and thought there were better and more clever choices. More power to the company though, it's their product.
Those are real nice. The detail on the intricate los muertos surprises me, Whoever applied that was obviously a ninja or wizard of some sort.
These are very cool but I just have to ask.... Was it SUPER hard applying the grip tape to the decks after the laser cut? I have done some grip tape cutouts by hand in the past and that was always the hardest part especially on the third design with the skulls....
Cheers
Chuck
Wow, very nice design!
The grip application process was fascinating. My mentors Nick and Matt slaved over the finalist tape jobs to ensure the art replication was as accurate as possible. The "Dia De Los Muertos" design yielded incredibly small grip pieces. Cheers to the designers, Pokono for their impressive cutouts, Core 77 for the opportunity and a round of applause to Nick and Matt at Bustin Boards for the most amazing grip tape work I have ever seen!
These look awesome - can't wait to ride it. It's gonna be a shame to have to stand on the grip tape though....might be time to start Bustin' in Slippers.
