The similarity between Ive's Apple products and vintage Dieter Rams designs is certainly striking. We've all seen the iPod and Braun's radio side by side...but what about all the other "distant" cousins? Take the iPhone and Rams' calculator for example. In this discussion, Side By Side It's Stunning, we're exploring how history, along with good design, repeats itself. Join in!

One day Apple might design something they deserve credit for. One day...
I think in some fields they call that "plagiarizing"... in others, they simply call it "ripping the other guy off."
isn't this story getting boring to anyone else? its not that the similarities are so important, but how different they are. What is missing from the Rams calculator is everything else...oh, then they aren't so similar. Are designers getting caught thinking that design is only skin deep? Does it have to look like nothing else on the planet in order to be considered original. C'mon!
Props to Rams, but lets move on.

Apple sold that Braun Calculator during the 80's with the Apple logo in the top right corner. Nice tribute.
Its quite serious for Apple's designers to get caught out like this. Also quite amusing too.
