I never saw the movie Sideways in full so I'll spare you the bad pun, but it so happens that it's the one word to describe designer Martin Jakobsen's rEvolution wineglass. The Czech designer, currently working for Mojoo Aps in Denmark, launched his eponymous brand in 2010 in order to pursue independent design ventures such as the rEvolution glass.

As with the stemless wineglass, part of the vessel is flattened so it can rest on a surface; however, Jakobsen has retained the stem as a sort of vestigial handle. The key, of course, is that the opening is at a 45° angle from either orientation.

Design balancing on the edge of the artwork and functional product. The rEvolution glass points out that we are daily surrounded by the monotone habits. It shows a new way how to drink wine. Just take a glass and change its position from horizontal to vertical. Enjoy the feelings both innovation and creativity. Pouring and drinking is very practical. Do not worry about overturning the wine glass nevermore.

It's certainly a clever idea, but only time will tell if the idea has legs (...sorry, couldn't resist).

First off I think the flat part of the glass will make it difficult to properly aerate the wine for full enjoyment of the wine. Also the handle doesn't look to allow for a good grip - especially for those who have been drinking.
