Here's a rather interesting piece of highly specific transforming furniture: The Human Hoist, which is designed to go from rolling chair to floor-level mechanic's creeper. Your average consumer will have no use for it, but for a grease monkey with no hydraulic lift, it provides a quick way to get from under the car to the toolchest and back again. Check it out (and lower your speakers if you're at work, annoying soundtrack ahead):
There's no word on what the thing would cost, as it's currently just a prototype. Whoever's behind the product has announced they're "actively looking for potential investment and/or [a] manufacturer to produce The Human Hoist," but their website has absolutely no useful information.

I'm really impressed by the smooth transition from sitting to laying down at floor level. Nevertheless I have my doubts about the functionality of this product in the actual work environment. Most cars in Europe don't have the same ground clearance as the demonstration car in the video. In fact, you can barely slide yourself underneath a standard car. How is this on the U.S. market? Do they drive cars with bigger ground clearance in the U.S.?
Yes ours are generally higher (probably to clear the massive potholes!) but not by much. Unless it's an SUV the clearance isn't nearly enough to get beneath without ramps at a minimum. If you can scrape yourself under there's not enough room to actually get enough leverage to work - to change oil for an example.
Cuno & Tom: You seem to be thinking of this as a consumer product, which it is not. This isn't for the average bro that's trying to save a couple bucks by changing his oil. This is for pros & semi-pros who build 'rods & do tons of mechanic work for a living. Hell, I don't even know that many people and I can think of three or four people who would get this if the price were right. And by the price being right I mean like 2-3K, which is about how much you can get a lift for (not including installation). The people I know have like 1-4 bays with Maybe 1 lift. Lifts are great but they're also obnoxious. They can't be moved, and they often ruin the flexibility of a space. The guys I know who have a lift usually have a couple more cars on stands or rotisseries. This type of product would be invaluable in these types of scenarios. At least it seems like it would be.
Its great invention. This will surely going to be a rocking science invention. Another science invention is also here to help you perform work in more efficient way.
