I'm totally digging these solid wood stools that look like they were made by elves with a 5-axis CNC mill. Designed by Karim Rashid for Italian manufacturer Riva 1920, the Fiore (first pictured) and Delta (second) are solid chunks of cedar. And the beauty of them, of course, is that while each are carved up according to that particular model's CAD file, no two will ever be alike.
As with all of Riva 1920's wooden pieces, they'll require a bit of maintenance when you first get them, due to their vegetable oil finishing process. "For the first few months...the furniture must be moved periodically as the wood, finished with natural substances, is sensitive to light and oxidizes, creating color differences between the exposed [surfaces] and those covered." Fine by me! Send some over!

More useless crap we don't need. With all the money you made designing useless crap Karim, maybe you could give back to the environment instead of using large pieces of wood for stools.

Not CNC'd but beautiful forms from solid wood.
I have to disagree with Rob D. Cedar is a pretty renewable material, especially if supplied from a responsible harvester. I think Rashid's efforts here are nicer than some of the foam or plastic seating he's done in the past.
Well said Rob. I'm not sure what we are supposed to take from such examples.. I cannot find on good quality to say about these stools... They dont even look good!
