Visitors to the Botanical Gardens in Dundee, Scotland this weekend are being treated to an interesting addition to the park furniture that could well be a world's first. Every time a passerby takes a perch on student Chris McNicoll's @tweetingseat a snapshot taken from a camera in the bench, and another in a nearby tree, are uploaded to Twitter, automatically capturing the sitters and their view from the bench.

By realising his installation, Chris hopes to illustrate and explore "the potential for connecting digital and physical communities". Although highly original, the Tweetseat is not the first piece of furniture to start twittering; we can't help be reminded of the equally brilliant, flatulence broadcasting Twittering Office Chair (@OfficeChair).

Could these clever concepts signal the beginning of a new era in social networking—a slightly terrifying future in which you are not only bombarded with the trivialities of peoples' lives but also those of inanimate objects.

The cameras are cunningly concealed in the eyes of the Twitter birds.
