Most of us keep a flashlight in a drawer. It's admittedly not an ideal location in the event of a blackout, when you have to remember which drawer it's in and fumble your way over there in the dark.

Oregon-based industrial designer Greg Hinzmann has come up with a brilliant solution for this in the form of his Trioh flashlight. Currently up on Kickstarter, the Trioh sits on a charging base that plugs into the wall, and is designed to be pretty enough that it doesn't live in a drawer, but remains out as an unobtrusive countertop object. The key feature is that when the power goes out, the Trioh senses it through its charger, and automatically illuminates so you can easily find it.

The charger arrangement means you never have to worry about it having fresh batteries, and I'm also digging how the bottom of the flashlight is flat, so that after being removed from the charger base you can still stand it up on a table to provide ambient light.
