Mold is typically an anathema in architecture and product design, but Sculptor Stacy Levy has embraced the medium, creating glass tiles which exhibit mold growth. She sandblasts enlarged images of common molds (bread mold and fruit mold) onto glass, and each of the carved out areas in the glass become like tiny petri dishes which are filled with growth medium and inoculated with mold spores. The mold grows on the glass, creating a double portrait of the fungus, both life sized and hugely magnified. [via Sere, Ltd.]
