Woe to those design objects that make a splash at the festivals, rack up some awards, and are then never seen, let alone purchased, by the majority of consumers.
One object that will hopefully avoid that fate is Christopher Born's Lichtsack, which dates from 2003 but has recently been picked up by online furniture retailer fashion4home, which ought to give it a wider American release. The nifty lovechild-of-a-lamp-and-a-sandbag can hold its light in a variety of positions, and f4h is selling it for a reasonable US $49. A European online retailer called Singulier has the Lichtsack in a cooler variety of colors (see below) but the style will cost ya--they've got it for 59 Euros, or about 80 bucks.

Really? This thing looks Horrible. Such a bad form and execution. Just a Terrible looking product. What's happening with this site condoning such a piece?
They are fab lights! A boyfriend gave me mine when I was a student and had feng shuid all my things to minimalism and just had a mattress on the floor and so no bedside table. (the things you do - rest of room was fab with superb pictures on walls - it was chicly feng-shuid - anyway - I digress); It sat on the floor and was in royal blue colour and is a fab invention as it doesn't fall over and burn the house down. They have beans in them so you can position the light to point anywhere you want. A superb design. Hope I may convert you to giving them a chance...!
My partner & I bought two silver coloured Lichtsacks in 2003, the switch on one has recently broken & has proved unrepairable we are devestated as they were matching bedside lights & it's just not the same any more, I'd be one of the first to buy another if I could they are so versatile, we love them, please ,please bring them back
