While it doesn't exactly undo the damage our glass-and-concrete structures have on the environment around them, Metaphys' stackable indoor grass planters, by designer Chiaki Murata, are a step in the right direction. Unfortunately the Metaphys website is all in Japanese (click here for Google-translated version), but you can take a look at different configurations of the planters here.

total crap, a whole bunch of plastic to grow a tiny bit of grass, talk about bad eco and bad design.
yeah this is really lame, if you actually want to make oxygen in your workplace bring a plant in grass is completely inefficient when it comes to the air-making business...
now if you were growing sprouts or watercres to put in a sandwich then this could be another device all together.
I have to agree with the others about it's uselessness when it comes to helping the ecosystem. it does look pretty cool tho...
