Veer Product Design and Scribble Product Design have collaborated to make the Type Tray, a laptop tray that looks like wood but is made from industrial wool felt, chosen to dissipate heat. The pattern you see is etched via laser. Not sure if I'd pay 100 bucks for it, but until engineers figure out how to make cooler-running laptops, designers will be busy coming up with products like these.

I'm not sure that this would actually cool your laptop. It looks awesome and might be an effective heat-barrier for your lap, but anyone with a wool coat would tell you that the wool will hold the heat from the laptop and might eventually overheat it instead of really dispersing the heat elsewhere. I know my laptop overheats when its directly on top of my sandwiched beeboard desk, as the board collects the heat and restricts airflow which eventually makes the laptop hotter than if it were able to transmit the heat out into the air. Wool: good for your crotch, bad for your laptop.
ooh... this is positively divine.
$100 for a piece of felt? You could make this cheaper as a one off. This may stop the heat from your laptop from reaching your legs, but the heat from your legs will sure build up.
Why don't people just buy laptops that don't overheat? All companies from B to Z sell them.
