Chinese designer Daizi Zheng (whose Stereotype Food Packaging we have featured yesterday) has created a conceptual mobile phone for Finnish brand Nokia that could be powered by sugary drinks. Zheng proposes that the phone could run on a battery that uses enzymes to generate electricity from carbohydrates.
This is a client project for designing an eco friendly phone for Nokia. Throughout my research, I found that using a phone battery as a power source is very expensive, consumes valuable resources on manufacturing, presents a disposal problem and is harmful to the environment. The concept is using a bio battery to replace the traditional battery to create a pollution free environment.

eco friendly my butt! What the heck is eco friendly about using soda that was created from chemicals- packaged- and shipped then not consumed but rather placed in your phone? And pollution free? What happens to the can at the end? Is that truly better than a battery? Then, more shipping to harm the environment and more energy to recycle it? lame.
And of course a battery powered by Coca Cola and metals is better than a battery powered by lithium... since the soda and the metals just appear out of thin air! And they have no ecological impact.
A not particularly useful exercise on form, built around an imaginary technology.
C'mon folkses, the active ingredients would presumably be sugar + water. That's a pretty low tech, and prospectively environment friendly energy source. And real technologies tend to start as imaginary technologies.
wil u plz tell me wats d relation between battery n carbohydrates???????? n how can v charge battery with soda n carbohydrates.
I agree with sue street. a biochemical process that is found in nature to turn sugar into energy is going on all the time in your body. An alkaline battery has way more harmful chemicals than soda. I wonder how much talk time I will get out of one can of soda?
