Eye Jewellery by Eric Klarenbeek

Apart from surgery, this is probably as close as we can get design to the eye. After five years of development, one of the boldest ideas in jewellery design is now undergoing tests and certification - a contact lens that becomes jewellery!

"Eye Jewellery is a concept by Dutch designer Eric Klarenbeek, who explores the potential of jewellery as an integral part of the human body. a combination of a pair of contact lenses and a string of tiny crystals makes a jewel that joins the movements of the eye and eyelid."

If laboratory tests are successful, we might already see Eye Jewellery in the shops within a few months. Whether this piece of jewellery would look good on you? Just watch the Eye Jewellery video here.

I don't think I'm alone in being weirded out by contact lens-insertion and thinking about touching your eye. This eye jewelry would completely disturb me to put in or see being put in, and would still slightly disturb me to witness someone else even after they'd put it in.

Yikes.

That thing looks absolutely disgusting to me for some reason. It looks like nasty goo dripping out of your eye. Why would anybody want something dangling from their eyeball brushing across their face all day? It seems like it would make blinking much more noticeable to the one wearing them, which I think would drive me nuts (arrrr) if it was me.

I vote: not needed.

Sorry but i have to say that that looks like a rheum or eye infection

A diamond eye booger says "forever"

ChrisOctober 24, 2008 4:23 PM

So do women want to make everyone around them think they're crying all the time?- I hope not... and let us say for instance that you sneeze... would that thing fly up and get tangled in you eyebrow? or hair? I don't even care that "it wont hurt if that happens"... its just gotta be embarrassing to be encumbered like that all the time. I bet frigging posh spice will wear one next to david beckham and then boom every girl I'm NOT interested in will start wearing it- at least then it will be easy for me to tell who not to talk to.

RuthJanuary 6, 2009 9:46 PM

Why would anyone WANT to wear this? Is it supposed to look cool? I have done many things that people have considered "weird", I have piercings in places you can only imagine, but this is too much even for me. I have done the "tattoo" thing, and then later decided it wasn't for me, I have done the hair things [color, cuts, and even lack there of] but I see no point in this at all. I hope that this mearley a sick joke and no one takes it serious, otherwise it is an infection and serious eye trouble later on. Funny though that vitamins and medicine take years of study to get them approved to go on the shelf, but put something out there like this that just screams problems in the ner future, and they brag it will be out i mear months. No friggin way, Ruth
