New York Times presents an interactive look at the evolution of the Olympic Torch since 1936, an item that's loaded with national symbolism and tradition. Interestingly no individual designer is credited for the Beijing torch but it's manufactured by Lenovo, the company that bought and operates IBM's ThinkPad.

some of those torches don't look terribly functional. but I guess to have to suffer for fashion
Of all the modern torches, I think the one that stands out as the least impressive is 1992. Anyone notice the designer?
