While I'm an iPhone fan, I must admit I was worried by the number of phones growing to resemble (if not outright copy) its design; if all phones looked like the iPhone, innovation would then be limited to software, and as a capitalist industrial designer I want us to arrive at more physical permutations of objects through competition.
So it's nice to see LG's recent experiment with form factors: Their VX9600, above, toys with the idea of modularity with its detachable keyboard. I'm not sure I'd buy it--I'm not even sure I like it--but steps like these are what will lead us to more perfect objects. The iPhone's purty, but it oughtn't be the form factor end-all!

I am not a fan of the apple's iphone an have also steered clear of imitators. I agree why do phone companies want to be known as a copy of the iphone - they should be coming up with new ideas and functions for their cell phone that apple isn't doing. When phone companies offer something different, functional and unique people will shift there attention from iphone to the new phone. They can become a leader rather than a follower.
