I went to the House Industries presentation at the SoHo Apple store.
H I G H L I G H T S They're cooking up some cool shit with opentype fonts - check out Ed Interlock - essentially they've already created a series of ligatures for each letter combination, and there's a mathematical equation going on behind the scenes that decides which ligature is the best fit based on the other ligatures being used around it. Pretty sweet and previously not possible.
They also purchased a huge photo lettering library (lots and lots of type on film). Now that they've saved the library from serious rot, they're trying to figure out how to offer it to us, the consumer. They're thinking of creating a site where you can purchase a headline - so you're paying by headline or character as opposed buying a license to a font.
they sketch in pencil, ink final comps and employ an in-house painter.
L O W L I G H T S They have a store in London called House 33 where they sell House brand clothes. I'm not sure what to think of this one, i guess time will tell.
The token nerd in the front row that jumped at the chance for a little Q+A. Not only did he ask ask one question, he asked three, threw in some flattery and the term "pricing structure." Lame.
