You want to make a music CD, so you pop a blank disc into your computer, it grinds a bit, and minutes later the disc pops back out. Easy peasy.
You know what's complicated? Making a vinyl 45! The amount of machine labor, human labor, time, and materials that go into each is rather surprising:

This is why I collect vinyl records. Because I know I am getting what I paid for, and it is a lifetime collectable. Unlike CD's and digital downloads, whose prices are extremely inflated when you think about the effort that goes into making them as opposed to vinyl.
A little bit misleading briefing on this article in my opinion. Of course making the master mold (right term?) is complicated task but as you can see at the end of the video, the manufacturing of vinyl records is really pretty much automatic...
Hmmm.... is it not the content, rather than the production process, of the record that makes it valuable?
Isn't making a master CD just as difficult as making a master vinyl ? Commercially they are both mastered and stamped much the same way.
Stamped CD!?..WTF!?
where can i buy a record pressing machine??? i want to buy a small record press...are they really extinct now??? theres one out there not being used right now, howcan i buy it???
They don't make record presses anymore. You have to get your vinyl manufactured by someone who still has the presses. I don't think the manufacturers sell them often because they are basically extinct. Record Pressing is my link they have two pressing plants down in L.A. and do short runs of vinyl.
