Santiago, Chile-based design studio Musuc, or Rodrigo Alonso's "happy ideas lab," presents N+ew (No More Electronic Waste). N+ew is a functional object that makes use of discarded electronic devices and parts, granting this toxic trash a second chance at life. This project enlisted the help of technicians and professionals with expertise in metal smelting, counterfoil development and plastic resins. N+ew's development was also supported by Recycla Chile S.A., the first and only company which recycles electronic waste in South America.

too bad he's capturing it all in a really toxic resin.... sort of defeats the point I'd say
Brilliant!
Beautiful product, I really like it but what is the matrix material that each of these waste products is set in? It looks like Polyester (plastic) Resin; very toxic and completely un-recyclable. I've tried to find more info on his website but all I've found is that they are hand-made. I think there are starch based bio-resins available that might have been used but if not, this could just be another furniture project justified by the guise of environmentally friendly and recycling conscious design. Many of the objects used in the N+ew project could be properly recycled. I think here in Europe a legislation introduced a few years ago stating that all electronic products can be posted free of charge back to the manufacturer for recycling and environmentally friendly disposal. More information on this project would be great.
