Wow--this has to be the only list of cell phones written in the past month that doesn't contain any mention of the you-know-what:
SF Chronicle and CNET's Best Smart Phones for Business Users

I can't believe the KDDI au phones are still only available for the Japanese market. Somebody do something about it!!!
When I saw the title of this post in my reader I was excited. Finally! a design blog post that isn't a exercise in iphone masturbation. Just because you just discovered smart phones when apple told you to buy one doesn't mean they're revolutionary, and the iphone certainly isn't the only one, and definitely nothing new.
Meh. they still look like waffles...
The iPod was nothing new, either. It just happened to be the first product that was good enough to convince people to spend $300 on a digital media player. At the time (arguably still today), it had the best software, best hardware, best integration with you computer, best design...
Apple didn't invent the mp3 player, but it sure made it usable and desirable in a way that it hadn't been before.
The same can be said for the iPhone. How many people saw their friend's Blackberry and thought to themselves, "Oooh, I should get one. That looks fun!"
And therein lies the fundamental difference between you and me, I want my phone (and my computer and my mp3 player) to help me get something done, you want a toy to show off to your friends.
