A solar tube, also called a sun tunnel, is a great way to get daylight into a dark space. They're also easier to install than full-blown skylights and easier to leak-proof; the light-gathering dome up at the top has a pretty tidy footprint. But until recently, not much thought has gone into the bottom end, which is typically rendered into a mere porthole.
Ross Lovegrove's new sun tunnel design for Italian manufacturere Velux adds some much-needed design, incorporating a hanging, blob-like reflector that bounces the light back against the ceiling, multiplying the sunshine effect.

Sure it kinda looks like an old iMac hanging from the ceiling, you can't beat the utility cost!

I have one of these installed in my small bathroom for more light. I had it installed 6 years ago. It worked beautifully until the other day when I noticed no light is coming through the ceiling cover. My husband tried to remove the ceiling cover to see "up" inside but couldn't. There are no screws holding it on but there are slits on the side. He is afraid to "force" it open fearing he may break the cover. Should there be resistence? Please help me because I really miss my sunlight coming in.
Thank you so much,
Mary
