A USB flash drive is something I always seem to need, yet often forget to carry; and while I might feel like a dork wearing Verbatim's new Tuff-Clip USB drive clipped to my belt loop, its convenience might outweigh its geek factor.
The ruggedized drive is made from ABS plastic, and the retractable cap design means there's no extra part to lose. In terms of data degradation, it'll keep your files for a decade--not forever--but in ten years the 4GB and 8GB sizes will probably only hold an e-mail or two anyway.
