With more than 50% of the population now living in cities and the number only increasing, more of us have to deal with the bane of urban existence: a lack of space. In the years to come, design innovations like the cabinet flap doors shown here will become more important--and necessary. And yes, we've been in East Village kitchens where cabinet doors like these would've made a huge difference; you can leave them open while cooking without having to constantly maneuver around the darn things.

Actually, I think the bane of existence, urban or otherwise, is the accumulation of too much crap.
How is that saving space as opposed to smaller width doors or even sliding doors?
1. Shallower shelves to accommodate all that hinge hardware.
2. All that hinge hardware.
3. Wasted space above cabinetry.
4. Awkward access to top shelf items.
5. Lack of lighting to stored items.
etc. etc.
As a former East Village dweller, I have to aggree. Though the largest problem I encountered was poor noise insulation. There's nothing quite like waking up to the neighbours alarm.
I have seen these around for some years now and they have always looked good. The downside is the do not take into consideration ADA requirements. How can we recommend these as innovative alternatives when they dismiss accessabilty for the disbled.
