A couple weeks ago, I tweeted about Patrick Stevenson-Keating's Quantum Parallelograph, idly wondering what it does. Lo and behold, he's released a video showing his brainchild in action:
Good stuff, but I'm still not quite sure what's going on in there. Of course, Stevenson-Keating's website indicates that it is a "work in progress." I wonder what the future holds for the Quantum Parallelograph... if only there was some kind of tabletop device that could tell me...

It does nothing.
It's a new high-tech fortune-telling 8 ball. Awesome.
It is the double-slit experiment showing how light acts as waves. The pattern of light on the screen is called a wave interference pattern. It's 1920's quantum mechanics. It got cool (in a spooky kind of way) when they started shooting one electron at a time through the double slit screen. The single electron somehow interferes with itself. Even after my Physics class I still can't quite wrap my head around the quantum world.
