Over at Jalopnik.com they're actually trying to answer the question, in true car-geek style.
Siemens engineers are starting to develop their new eCorner concept, where the electric motor, brakes, suspension and steering are integrated into the wheel hubs at each corner of the vehicle. Add a "Joy-Stick" instead of the "Steering wheel system," and an EESTOR ultra-capacitor instead of the battery, motor, drive-train, exhaust system, gas, oil and all their little parts. . . . . . . Then what would an electric car look like, if you take it apart and spread it out like this? . . . . . What would it look like if you only showed the moving parts on both?
The german car magazine AutoBild usually deconstruct the car in this way. Could be an Autobild picture from the mid/late 80ties
