Tim Lewis, furniture and lighting designer from Philadelphia has designed the Strap Chairs and Stools, modeled after the classic American aluminum woven lawn chair. Instead of a lightweight aluminum frame, the seats and backs are made from walnut (with traditional mortis and tenon joinery techniques), then wrapped with nylon straps woven in a fluorescent checker pattern.
Also see the Plank Stool, inspired by another American relic: school furniture. The stool is a combination of two elements: a milled plank of walnut for sitting and a powder coated bent steel base, complete with those familiar school desk feet.

???? modeled after the classic aluminium lawn chair? How? what? huh? Looks more like a shaker weaving work then anything else, A. it's not even aluminium and B. it's super tightly woven and narrow... has nothing in common... not the least bit. And the plank stool.. the only thing it has in common with school chairs is bent metal and those little feet. Have you ever seen a school chair with a thick block seat and no back???????????????/?????/?
Jimmy ????? Lighten up... I think the clue word is inspired. Inspiration is just a thought, an idea brought on by something else. I didn't get the feeling he was reproducing the aluminum in wood and he didn't call it a chair it was referred to as a stool. Lots of stool don't have backs and again he was inspired by the school chair. Your intitled to you opion so I guess you don't like chairs or stools. I liked them reguardless what inspired him.
