It would be a woodworker's dream if trees came like this:

Alas, it's not real; it's not even real wood. It's a polystyrene and resin piece by Switzerland-based artist Vincent Kohler, shot by Geoffrey Cottenceau. I guess receiving trees in that form would be cheating for a true craftsman, but I can't help thinking of all the sawdust I wouldn't have to vacuum up.

I'm sure you are well aware of this, but this is how wood comes to a woodworker. At least the 99.9% of them who don't operate a sawmill. There are many different methods of turning a tree into timber, depending on the use of the lumber. Whether it be to minimize knots and distortion, of maximize grain appearance. There is billet, rift, quartered, true radial, and slash or "through and through" sawing to name a few. It would actually be a worth while post to show the different cuts, they are quite complex, and considering they are over such a great length, quite impressive.
Ah what a great idea make a fake tree out of two unrecyclable materials - what a waste. There should be a ban on this kind of pointless design that does nothing but harm the environment.
Thank you Chuck!
Seriously ppl who come up with these ideas make themselves look stupid - didn't they do ANY research?
