The Deafinite Style is a concept from Munich-based Designaffairs STUDIO that turns a hearing aid into a piece of jewelry, provided you're up for a bit of lobe stretching to get started. The main advantage they propose (aside from an instant hipster-grunge-punk look) is the opportunity to embed the TriMic System -- a highly effective directional microphone system made from 3 individual microphones -- into the plug, helping people who suffer from severe hearing loss.

really sweet concept. how would you incorporate headphones? include a telecoil loop into it for those who use the phone & headphones?
I think this is a really great idea but i don't really know if many people would buy them. I think they would really sell if they were bluetooth headphones as well that is if they were to ever go to market. I would buy them in an instant
BRILLIANT!
Where does the pixie dust go? I'm all for concepts that push the envelope, but please spend more than 5 mins thinking about the realities of ears, canals, and power requirements. I can't see many 72 year old people buying these.
I think this concept has serious potential and should be on the market. re Joe - its not just 72 year olds who are deaf, there's everyone else at many ages, and its a bit ageist to say a 72 year old who has a tatt wouldn't go for one of these - how do you know? Also, for women wearing funky jewelry - think arty types- couldn't this be attached to a funky earring in place of stretching the earlobe? And there are so many people in the music industry going deaf next to thumpa-thumpa loudspeakers, that these "ears" would be awesome and make them blend in, if blending in was what they wanted.
I was actually searching for a hearing aide/piercing when I stumbled upon this. I'd really like to see a way to use a hearing aide without the gauge. Perhaps one of those nifty three or four hole piercings. I know I'd go for it.
I, myself, don't know the difference between the technology for the deaf and hard of hearing and the technology for Bluetooth and headsets. I wouldn't ignore these hipsters, though, it seems pretty feasible, and could very well fund the research to make the hearing aide jewelry a reality.
Have you checked out kickstarter.com to get this project going? If you don't' soon, I will XD.
