DoubleButter's civil service furniture graffiti "installations" of these Rogue Benches are to be seen as more civil service, less graffiti. The design duo chose spots in front of Denver's big-name museums that feature next to no local talent to covertly plant these sleek, modern resting places--in and out in less than 5 minutes. No complaints from tired legs, and hey, not too shabby to look at either.
I am a Landscape Architect. I like the fact that they upset the oppressively dull space outside the art gallery. The bench they installed looks far more inviting than the grey slab the architect specified to match their building. I also think the idea of turning up and putting in a bench where there is no where to sit is a great idea. The bench should face out towards the street tho, why sit with your back to the traffic?
Is this just a piece of art? A more functional end result would be a better bit of guerilla activity if the idea is to claim spaces for people and not empty, inhuman design.
