| Overview | |||||||
Billy Blue is highly regarded by the visual communications industry, both in Australia and overseas. This is due to three key factors. Firstly and perhaps most important of all is the quality of the students that come to study here. The enthusiasm and talent they bring creates an energy that’s hard to define but that can certainly be seen in the work they produce. Secondly, the programs we deliver are specifically designed to help students learn the broad range of skills needed to become a creative and productive member of the design community. And lastly, but just as importantly, we have a dedicated team of lecturers, all of whom are industry practitioners, which means that what we teach is dynamic, commercial and contemporary. A design education at Billy Blue opens not just any doors, but the right ones! Although we will equip you to work in the traditional areas of the graphic design and multimedia design industries, the boundaries dividing these sectors are disappearing quickly. Our programs will give you the flexibility you need for these dynamic and evolving career paths. Billy Blue teaches practical skills so you’ll learn what the industry needs. Employment is the beginning, middle and end of the training and your portfolio will be your passport to a successful career. The programs at Billy Blue will train you to work in a wide range of visual communication areas and at the end of each year you will be producing your own industry standard portfolio. This portfolio is marked by industry which means that every piece of work you do should always be the very best you can do. Our courses focus on developing the practical skills you will need when you start work. Because our lecturers are industry practitioners, the projects you will be working on are based on real life briefs and are assessed accordingly. This means you will develop the technical and problem-solving skills needed to be an effective designer. As well as core design skills you will learn about the business environment in which designers work. This will include the basics of financial management, the commercial objectives of clients and how to develop strategies to meet those objectives. You will also be given an extensive overview of the way other people work in the design and multimedia industries. At Billy Blue we believe: Design is about IDEAS, thinking comes first, drawing and computers LATER. |
