Dublin has sent three artists to the streets (and rooftops) to capture some of the town's best views. Even better, they compiled timelapse videos of the finished products.
Given just one day to complete their masterpiece, the three participating illustrators—Steve Simpson, Steve McCarthy and Fuchsia Macaree—had their work cut out for them. The challenge is a part of the #LoveDublin initiative—an effort by Visit Dublin to bring all of the city's much-loved landmarks to light.
Check out the timelapse videos from all three vantage points:
Simpson illustrates for children's books and that sentiment isn't lost in his Dublin illustration. The freehanded buildings and symbols—like the four-leaf clover floating near St. Patrick's Cathedral—can easily be re-imagined in a city guide for kids.
After a few minutes of perusing MacAree's website, her whimsical city maps stood out to me the most. Her portrait of Dublin follows suit with bold colors and blocky figures—it's almost like diving in for a close-up on one of her maps.
The structural lines in McCarthy's soft watercolor might be my favorite part of the entire series. There's definitely some self-initiated modern revival happening with his rendition.
All in all, the three artists bring entirely different views (and colors) to Dublin's landscape. Which one is your favorite?
