Anglepoise recently busted out with this unexpected remix of George Carwardine's 1932 classic. British designer Anthony Dickens' Anglepoise Fifty lamp marks the launch of a new sub-brand, Anglepoise Play, aimed at a younger, playful audience. The design is pretty much no-frills and apparent upon first glance, made of injection-moulded polycarbonate with a lamp fitting. If you find one in your possession, we hope you're happy with the angle, 'cause it ain't-a-changin'.
The idea then came to freeze it at fifty degrees, cast it like an old archeological relic, strip it of production complexity and shape it into something new which still retained a functionality and personality but added a heightened playfulness to appeal to younger audiences. In simple terms, it's the cheeky kid brother snapping at the heels of his older sibling.
