Singapore once again played host to the International Design Forum. The event was held at the Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore, October 19-23, 1994, organized by the Design Centre Singapore.

This Forum, a biennial event, is part of the national efforts to promote good design in Singapore and enhance Singapore's position as the design hub of the region.

Forum's theme. "Design Sustains Development" was chosen as the Forum's theme, to reflect the importance of design in achieving a better quality of life and greater competitiveness in business.

The event comprised a three-day conference and a five-day exhibition. attended by more than 280 international delegates from more that 15 countries from Europe, USA and the Asia-Pacific regions.

It provided opportunities to discuss and exchange ideas with 10 distinguished speakers on current issues including:
* the role of design as a tool for product strategies
* design for a sustainable environment
* design as a strategic management resource and
* the business of art and design.

The workshop sessions provided the participants with the opportunity to delve into provocative topics including:
* design and manufacturing in Asia
* design and its role for tomorrow
* educating the next generation of designers
* bringing design awareness to the society at large.

Conclusion. The Fourth International Design Forum was deemed a successful event, made possible by the strong support and contributions received from the design fraternity and industry in Singapore as well as overseas. The organizers have expressed the hope to see the presence or participation of more ICSID member countries at future forums.
