Design enthusiasts never fail to flock in droves to this NYC neighborhood, despite the undulating wafts of rotting meat stench. Why? Because the Meatpacking District always dishes out a generous array of design delights for each individual to pick and choose from.
Valvomo: New Finnish Design was held in an old fish locker and featured the work of seven Finnish designers who'd never shown in the States before. The look was smooth and bright; the feel was modern, edgy, and thoughtful. The Blaster (Nokia Blaster) by Terho Asikainen was definitely a treat to see in person.
Iceland Cometh, sponsored by Icelandair, featured a collective of Icelandic designers stepping out into the international design front.
Vitra devoted its main space to the newest works and a special Alcove Sofa installation by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.
A quick pass-through treat at Wonderland provided a nice assortment of colorful scratch-n-sniff Flavor Paper wall coverings.
