3D Printing Saves the Day at an Italian Hospital. Can Industrial Designers Help With the World's Shortage of Ventilator Machines?
It seems important to think about the suitability of the materials they are printing the valves from. I understand the need for valves overriding other concerns but there is a lot of bio compatibility testing required for materials in the product version. Forcibly inhaling the offgassing products of various untested 3d printing plastics may have long term unforeseen consequences.
Still, in a time of emergency this is very cool to see
While this is great, sometimes you have todo what you have todo to save a life. The really messed up part is the original manufacture has threatened to sue. See the tech dirt article: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20200317/04381644114/volunteers-3d-print-unobtainable-11000-valve-1-to-keep-covid-19-patients-alive-original-manufacturer-threatens-to-sue.shtml
Mike, I did not include that part of the story--because it has been debunked; it's all bullshit. The manufacturer has issued a statement saying they never made any threat to sue. Google for the latest versions of the story and you'll see the retractions made by media outlets.
Good to hear! Thanks.
