One of our favorite shows each year is the techstravaganza over at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). Past years have been impressive, but yesterday's show was a blockbuster. The place is pretty grown up now, with more robust engineering, provocative concepts, and media savvy.

A few favorites were Joo Youn Paek's Zoonori, a wall-mounted origami installation where users touch the folded facets of a piece of paper to create various harmonic sounds; Daniel Liss's simple, haunting Email Lantern, which projects email messages, letter-by-letter, onto a wall; and Catherine Colman and Angela Pablo's Under the Level, a web- and sticker- based project tying the plight of New Orleans with New Yorkers using water levels as the, well, leveling device. But you could throw a thumbdrive in any direction, really, and hit something that would delight you.

There was lots and lots of webwork this year (physical computing is getting a run for its money!), and the energy in the exhibition was great. All of the students were willing to talk about their projects as much, or as little, as visitors liked, and it was just as fun to watch other people interacting with the inventions as it was to strap them on yourself. Well, almost as much fun.
