
The Precipice Alliance, an organization that aims to educate the public about energy conservation and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, has commissioned conceptual artist Mary Ellen Carroll's Indestructable Language installation in Jersey City, New Jersey. The 8' neon high letters, installed in the windows of the former American Can Company factory and future site of CANCO Lofts, read "It is green thinks nature even in the dark."
The neon lighting elements are carbon neutral and use low-wattage, energy-efficient transformers and lead-free glass tubing donated by TecnoLux, a pioneer in the application of new eco-conscious materials for the neon and lighting industry. Additionally, The Bonneville Environmental Foundation has supplied "Green Tags" to be used in conjunction with solar panels to offset the energy consumed.
The project is clearly visible from the Pulaski Skyway and the Jersey Turnpike, as well as incoming and outgoing flights.
