Forget silver soldering—Gonçalo Campos is making jewelry from 3D-printed steel. The collection, entitled Comion Jewelry, comprises of a ring, two bracelets (one open, one closed), a pendant necklace, and a range of accessories (to come).

In addition to the striking, non-modular open truss geometry, also notable is Campos' embracing of the printing technology's texture: "The inevitable texture that this process produces is here used as a feature."

Not only does this fold the marks of production into a decorative texture, but it also preserves a dying thing—as 3D printing processes continue to improve, the printing stratum will cease to be visible. I suppose there is another scenario suggested by this piece, as well: we'll stop expecting smooth surfaces in all our objects, and the marks of digital fabrication will simply become an everyday texture.
