The armadillo-like SunRed solar moped concept features a cool way to cover the bike up when it's parked: a retractable shell covered in solar panels. When you're ready to go, just roll the cover back and fire the moped up, as it's now been juiced up by the sun.

Designed by Barcelona-based Guimeraicinca, a partnership between designers and educators Oriol Guimera and Joan Cinca, the SunRed won a special jury mention at the Barcelona International Motor Show's Awards for Technological Innovation. Check out more Guimeraicinca projects here.

Interesting concept, but displaying the inherent flaws of a solar powered vehicle. All of the power generating panels are on the exterior of the vehicle and in this case some of the most vulnerable areas in the event of impact or tip-over. Even a minor collision or parking mishap could render the vehicle inoperable.
Do you have an idea about how hard to bend these solar cells?
this is an amazing, if fully executed, I'd def. be hoppin' on it
Pretty cool looking. What would be really neat would be if the solar "shell" could be used to cover up the driver in the rain or even cold weather.
