A month ago (to the day), we saw the fanciful side of Kawamura Ganjavian, with their "Ostrich" pillow design. In the meantime, they've largely been focusing on the architectural half of their design practice, including a handful of entries for building projects in Switzerland, but they continue to dabble in product design, as in their new project "Ductpan."
DUCTPAN is not a standard dustpan; it includes an ingenious funnel duct to simplify the process of emptying it out

It's the sort of thing that must have been thought up before, yet I can't seem to find any other examples of this sort of dustpan design—it might be the biggest innovation in dustpan design was the clip-in handle for the brush. (In fact, it looks like that brush might fit in the pan as well...)

In any case, it's a nice example of functionality + minimalism (and yet another curveball to Gizmodo, who didn't bite on my last lob...

That's been done already. And by Rubbermaid:

And it had a lid...
Target had it for a while but wasn't a great seller.
Theres a mismatch between the size of object you can sweep into it compared to the size of objects you can empty. In addition the requirement to alter your grip (or contort your wrist) to empty it makes it unergonomic. Nice idea but not a working product.
Wow. Really?
I thought the mutlitool above was horrible until I saw this.
First, I'd like to see a dust bunny pass through that opening. I'm certain giving birth would be easier. And no cap? Now I have to balance the pan from pile of debris to pile of debris instead of holding it upright. And how easy will it be to clean that funnel? At least Rubbermaid put some thought into their design and it seems it was still unsuccessful.
It seems Core needs to do a little more work and a little less copy and paste.
Best thing is the last image that shows tipping the sweepings through the funnel into a bin that is clearly wide enough to fit the whole head of the dustpan. Pointless
And why is this a good idea anyway? Funnels work for pouring/dumping into small openings. Who has trash bins with tiny openings? Are we supposed to use this thing to dump the stuff we sweep up in to our pockets?! Useless and thoughtless.
Another case of lack of research before developing a product. It is like a disease among young Designers. An extensive research is a fundamental part of developing a project, please, fellows, don not forget it. Remember that is very hard to build a good reputation, but it is so easy to ruin it. Before starting your next super innovative project, please, make sure it does not exists already. Most of the times, it does.
