How can you tell when a product's popularity has gone too far? In a recent survey by Washington Square News, twenty percent of NYU students said they would relinquish their right to vote in the next presidential election in exchange for an iPod.
Now if it was one of those be-careful-what-you-wish-for Genies doling out the prizes, the iPods would come preloaded with MP3's of rousing political speeches.

There was just a municipal election where I'm going to uni. AMong students, turnout was around 100. Among the rest of the city, turnout was a whopping 10%.
And being a small uni town, the student bloc could easily swing the election. Now that I think about it though...I'm glad most of my fellow students don't care enough to get involved.
I don't know if I believe the claim that someone would give up their right to vote for one election in exchange for an iPod. Certainly, someone might, but it's an easy claim to make since it would be a highly illegal offer to make.
